ULTRAVIOLET PHOTOGRAPHY

Functioning

Ultraviolet involves radiations of wave lengths between 320 nm and 400 nm. These radiations excite the light fluorescence of the components which can be photographed.

Use

The photographic analysis makes visible the surface repaints which appear as dark spots. It also shows the preservation state of the work. Ultraviolet fluorescence also allows to distinguish pigments of same colour according to their chemical composition.

Applications

UV photography allows the study of paintings on wood, ceramics, stones, archaeological objects.
